What charities should I name in my Will or Trust?

Figuring out which charity to name in your Will or Trust can be a surprisingly difficult task. John D. Rockefeller is often quoted as saying that he had a much more difficult time giving away his money rather than making it - as counterintuitive as that may seem.

Similarly, you may have some organizations in mind, but are unsure whether your donation will actually make a difference. Or will it just get lost in the void? Will it be wasted?

For example, some clients consider their alma mater, but then read about the size of the fund (or maybe some scandal/controversy) and have second thoughts. Other clients get nervous about their donations being eaten away by administrative expenses or mismanagement. And then there could be outright fraud or embezzlement.

In other words, you may have an idea or an intention of which cause to support, but you need clarification on which vehicle best serves that purpose. You want a non-profit that will make the best use of your funds in the manner that best aligns with your intentions.

Then you open Google and realize hundreds or thousands of non-profits address your cause or concern (plus, there are virtually endless causes to consider). All of a sudden, you may be overwhelmed again by the task at hand. I’m getting some anxiety just writing this.

But, here’s the good news! Your concerns have been heard, and professionals with decades of experience working in or with non-profits are now available to get you through the process to your final destination. Not only do philanthropy consultants simplify the process for you, but they can also make giving an enjoyable experience (as it should be).

One perfect example is Rick Peck (aka “The Philanthropy Guy”) - who has spent years accumulating resources and insights - many of which he makes readily available through his website, podcast series, book, and weekly newsletter.

So, if you have charitable intentions, but have no idea where to begin - I’d highly recommend you connect with an expert like Rick to get the most out of your charitable gifts.
